今年もまた，ヨーロッパ最大のゲームショーを彩るECTS Awardsが発表された。ホストを務めたのは，イギリスではテレビで司会もこなすコメディアン，ガレス・ジョーンズ（Gareth Jones）氏で，数百人の入場者に見守られての受賞となった。
　ECTSアワードはヨーロッパのゲーム誌や業界の代表によってノミネート作品が選考され，入場者なら誰でも投票権を得られるというもの。ECTSに参加している企業の作品が優先されるという問題はあるが，ヨーロッパでは唯一ともいえるゲーム賞には違いない。

　さて，今年のベストPCゲームに選出されたのは，Electronic Arts社の「Medal of Honor：Allied Assault」で，会場での拍手も多く，その人気を物語っていた。なお，ベストコンソールゲーム（家庭用ゲーム機）には，各国でランキングを総なめ状態の「Grand Theft Auto 3」，さらに会場に出展されていた作品から選ばれるベストゲーム・オブ・ザ・ショーは，Rainbow Sixシリーズのコンソール版「Sprinter Cell」が獲得した。
