Cryptic Studiosが「Neverwinter Nights」のMMORPGを開発中？

　海外エンターテイメント情報サイトVarietyが報じたところによると，ゲームデベロッパCryptic Studiosが，2011年のリリースに向け，Neverwinter NightsシリーズをもとにしたMMORPGを開発しているという。

　Cryptic Studiosといえば，スーパーヒーローの活躍を描くMMORPG「City of Heroes」（PC/Macintosh）の開発元で，現在は，同じくヒーローもののMMORPG「Champions Online」や，スター・トレックファン待望のMMORPG「Star Trek Online」を開発している。
　さらに以前，もう一作，未発表のMMORPGを開発していることをほのめかしていたこともあり（関連記事），今回報じられたMMO版Neverwinter Nightsとの関連が気になるところである。

　さて，Neverwinter Nightsシリーズは，TRPG「Dungeons & Dragons」の第3版をベースとするファンタジーRPGで，TRPGを意識したマルチプレイモードの採用を大きなウリとしている。
　このモードでは，一人のプレイヤーがダンジョンマスターとなり，独自に作り上げた世界でほかのプレイヤー達とセッションが行えるのだ。
　このように同シリーズでは，当初から複数のプレイヤーが集まってプレイすることが想定されているだけに，MMORPG化の下地は整っているといえるかもしれない。

　ファンの一人として，プレイヤーがゲームの世界を広げていけるNeverwinter Nightsのよさを生かしつつ，MMORPG化してほしいところだ。正式発表を楽しみに待ちたい。
