北米地域での発売が迫る「Fallout: New Vegas」のビデオダイアリー第5弾が公開に。“New Vegas”のメインストリートの様子を確かめよう

　北米地域での発売日（10月19日）が間近に迫った，アクションRPGの人気シリーズ最新作「Fallout: New Vegas」（PC / PS3 / Xbox360）で，開発者達によるビデオダイアリー第5弾が公開された。今回のビデオダイアリーは，ラスベガスの未来像として描かれている“New Vegas”の街の中でもとくにきらびやかなエリア，“The Strip”を紹介する内容となっている。

　New Vegasは，水や電力の源となるフーバーダムが核戦争による直接的な被害を受けなかったことから，現在のラスベガスのイメージ同様，ネオンきらめく賑やかな歓楽街として描かれている。
　とはいえ，メンテナンス不足のためビルの外壁や道路の舗装状態は悪く，また秩序が守られているエリアも少なさそうだ。

　今回公開されたムービーでは，New VegasのメインストリートにあたるThe Stripの街並みや，カジノの内部，そして酔っ払いや売春婦らしき女性など，街を行き交っている人々の姿がうかがい知れる。このムービーを見る限り，1950年代のアメリカを意識してマップがデザインされている印象だ。
　カジノにはスロットマシンや，カードゲーム用のテーブルなどが配置されている。Falloutシリーズの初期作品のようにギャンブルが楽しめる点は，往年のファンにとって嬉しいポイントだろう。



　ムービーの終盤では，人々に混じって街を徘徊するセキュリティロボットの姿が確認できる。銃撃戦に持ち込んだものの，逆に蜂の巣にされてしまうシーンもあり，そう簡単に倒せる相手でないことがうかがえる。

　なお日本国内でも，北米地域の発売から2週間ほどあととなる11月4日に，PlayStation 3版およびXbox 360版がゼニマックス・アジアからリリースされる予定だ。
　前作「Fallout 3」は，日本でもコアゲーマーの心をつかんだタイトルだけに，Fallout: New Vegasもかなりのセールスを記録できるのではないだろうか。
