「NBA 2K22」，八村 塁選手が飾る日本限定パッケージカバーがお披露目された記者発表会レポート

　2Kは本日（2021年8月11日），同社より2021年9月10日に発売予定のバスケットボールゲームシリーズ最新作「NBA 2K22」（PC / PS5 / Xbox Series X / PS4 / Xbox One / Nintendo Switch）において，八村 塁選手が飾る日本版のパッケージアートの披露＆記者発表会を開催した。
　記者発表会ではワシントン・ウィザーズに所属する現役NBAプレイヤーの八村選手が登壇し，本作への思いを語った。

　NBA 2Kシリーズでカバーを飾る日本人は八村選手が初。八村選手は「小さいころからNBA2Kシリーズをプレイしていたので，カバーになるのは夢でした。日本版ですけどカバーになるのはすごく嬉しいです」とコメントした。
　また，本作のエグゼクティブ・プロデューサーであるエリック・ベニッシュ氏から日本のファンに向けたメッセージも公開された。

　その後はいよいよ日本限定通常版パッケージのお披露目に。披露されたパッケージには躍動感あふれる八村選手の姿に加え，パッケージ上部には「八村」の字も入っている。八村選手曰く，カバーに使われているのは試合中の一幕のようだ。


　お披露目の後は八村選手への質問が行われた。八村選手は東京2020オリンピックで旗手を務めたが，同じく旗手を務めた女子レスリング日本代表である須崎優衣選手との身長差が大きく，どうやって一緒に持つか悩んだ末に，前後半に分けて持つことに決まったというエピソードが明かされた。


　記者発表会の中盤では特別ゲストとして，八村選手をイメージしたオリジナルキャラクターが登場した。まだ「名前がない」キャラクターだが，今回，八村選手に決めてもらうという。
　名前候補は「2Kムラ（ツケムラ）くん」「2Kムラ（ニケムラ）くん」「ハッチくん」の3つだったが，「せっかく（日本のキャラクター）なので，（日本語読みの）ニケムラくんが良いと思います」とコメント。宣伝隊長を務めるというオリジナルキャラクターの名前は“ニケムラくん”に決定した。

　最後に「僕が表紙でかっこよくしてもらって，カバーを飾るのが小さい頃の夢だったので，夢がかなって嬉しいです」と語り，イベントは終了した。
