「South of the Circle」，日本語対応でリリース開始。南極で遭難した男が追想する冷戦下のラブストーリー

　11 bit studiosは，イギリスのState of Playが開発した新作アドベンチャー「South of the Circle」（PC / PS5 / Xbox Series X / PS4 / Xbox One / Nintendo Switch / iOS）をリリースし，ローンチトレイラーを公開した。日本語にも対応しているという。

　「South of the Circle」の背景となるのは，第二次世界大戦後に世界が自由主義と共産主義に二分した冷戦時代だ。ケンブリッジ大学教員のピーターが南極に不時着し，極限状況の中，破局した恋人クララへの想いや過去の記憶などが現実と交差していくという，ストーリーを重視した作品だ。愛し合ったクララだが，ピーターは愛とキャリアを天秤にかけ，結局はクララとの約束を果たせなかった。そんなピーターの，せつないラブストーリーが描かれる。


　版画のようなフラットでミニマムなグラフィックスが特徴の本作だが，キャラクターアニメーションにはモーションキャプチャが使われているとのこと。ピーター役は「ボヘミアン・ラブソディ」のブライアン・メイ役が印象的だったグウィリム・リー（Gwilym Lee）さんが，またクララ役はBBCドラマ「ロードキル」に出演中のオリビア・ヴィナル（Olivia Vinall）さんが声優として起用されており，日本語化されたテキストを読みながら，映画のようなドラマを堪能できるはずだ。


　11 bit studiosは「Meaningful Entertainment」（意義のあるエンターテイメント）と銘打ったシリーズを立ち上げて，心に訴えるストーリーや社会的なテーマを持つインディーズ作品をバックアップしているが，この「South of the Circle」もそのラインアップの1つ。どんなストーリーなのか気になる人はプレイしてみよう。
