のどかな雰囲気の名曲をバックに激しいバトル。なんともハチャメチャな世界感が伝わる「ボーダーランズ2」の最新ムービーが公開

　Gearbox Softwareは，2010年にリリースされてスマッシュヒットとなったFPSの続編「ボーダーランズ2」（PC / PlayStation 3 / Xbox 360）の最新ムービー「Borderlands 2 Wimoweh Trailer」を公開した。


　タイトルにある「Wimoweh」とは，ザ･トーケンズの名曲「Lion Sleeps Tonight」（邦題：ライオンは寝ている）で歌われているフレーズ。このムービーは，誰もが耳にしたことがあるであろうこの曲をバックに，キャラクター達がバトルを繰り広げたり，リズムに合わせて体を揺らしたりするという，MADムービー風な作りになっている。


　それでいて，草原や雪山といった場所を舞台に，さまざまなモンスターやバンディットたちが登場し，多彩な照明効果が確認できるところは，前作にあった「茶色の背景が多い」「敵のパターンが少ない」などという批評に対して，ちゃっかりとゲームの進化を説明するものになっている。Gunzerker，Siren，Commando，Assassin，そしてMechromancerの5つのキャラクタークラスの個性も引き立っており，見応えある映像なのは間違いないだろう。

　日本でも，PlayStation 3とXbox 360で10月25日に発売されることが決定している本作。最近では前作のセーブゲームがあると，それぞれのキャラクターに合わせた被り物アイテムが無料でアンロックされることが発表された。
　今後も，Gearbox Softwareはあの手この手でファンを楽しませてくれそうだ。
