　10年前の2013年10月に66歳で急逝したトム・クランシー氏は，「レッド・オクトーバーを追え！」やジャック・ライアンシリーズなどで有名なアメリカのベストセラー作家だ。1996年にゲームメーカーのRed Storm Entertainmentを設立。自身の小説を原作にした「Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six」を1998年にリリース。「タクティカルシューター」というジャンルを生み出すなど，ゲーム業界にも大きな影響を与えた人物として知られている。

　Red Storm Entertainmentと共にパブリッシングを担当していたのはフランスのUbisoftで，いわゆる「トム・クランシーもの」のヒットによってUbisoftも成長してきたという歴史がある。Red Storm Entertainmentは2000年にUbisoftに買収され，「Tom Clancy」という名称の独占使用権もUbisoftが保有している。


　先頃クローズドβテストが実施されて話題を集めた「エックスディファイアント」（PC / PS5 / Xbox Series X|S / PS4 / Xbox One）には，「Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell」のエシュロンや，「Tom Clancy's The Division」のクリーナーズ，さらに「Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Breakpoint」のウルヴズなどが登場しており，まさに，没後10年の集大成という雰囲気だ。
