［GDC 2012］「The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim」がGame of the Yearに。「The 12th annual Game Developers Choice Awards」授賞式レポート

　アメリカ時間の2012年3月7日，サンフランシスコで開催中のGDC 2012において，「Game Developers Choice Awards」の授賞式が開催された。
　Game Developers Choice Awardsは，優れたゲーム作品や特筆すべき業績を残した開発会社および個人に授与されるもの。ゲーム業界関係者の投票によって選ばれるという点が大きな特徴で，今回は約500名が投票に参加したという。


　今回授賞式の司会を務めたのは，「Gears of War」シリーズの成功でスター開発者の仲間入りを果たしたEpic Gamesのクリフ・ブレジンスキー（Cliff Bleszinski）氏。ちなみにブレジンスキー氏は人前に出るのに慣れているようで，その仕切り振りは実に見事である。滞りなく式を進行するだけでなく，いいタイミングで会場の笑いもとっていた。

毎年恒例となっている，ゲームをモチーフにした“オモシロ”ムービーが今年も流された。そのうちの1本では，司会のブレジンスキー氏と，Lifetime Achievement Award（生涯功労賞）を受賞したウォーレン・スペクター（Warren Spector）氏がネタにされていた

　……そんな前置きはさておき，2011年度の作品を対象に選ばれた，各部門のノミネート作品と受賞作は以下のリストのとおりだ。10部門中3部門を「Portal 2」（PC / PlayStation 3 / Xbox 360 / Mac）が獲得したものの，大方の予想どおりGame of the Yearには「The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim」（PC / PlayStation 3 / Xbox 360）が輝いた。
　また，「Thief」や「Deus Ex」で知られるウォーレン・スペクター（Warren Spector）氏が，Lifetime Achievement Award（生涯功労賞）を，「Missile Command」や「Tempest」を開発したデイヴィッド・トイラー（David“Dave”Theurer）氏がPioneer Award（パイオニア賞）をそれぞれ獲得。さらに，ケネス・ドロシー（Kenneth L. Doroshow）氏とポール・スミス（Paul M. Smith）氏がゲーム業界への貢献を称えられ，“大使”の意味を含んだAmbassador Awardを受賞した。

　14回目となる本アワードの結果は以下のとおり。今年はノミネート作品の実力（？）が伯仲していたようで，一つの作品に賞が集中することはなかった。
