C&Cシリーズの開発チームが手がける新作RTS「9‐Bit Armies: A Bit Too Far」，アーリーアクセス版をSteamで配信開始

　ネバダ州ラスベガスを拠点にするPetroglyph Gamesは，PC向け新作RTS「9‐Bit Armies: A Bit Too Far」のアーリーアクセス版の配信をSteamで開始した。価格は2300円（税込）。3月2日まで10％オフの2070円（税込）になるリリース記念セールが実施されている。

　本作は，プレイヤーがマップ上に自陣を築き，さまざまな施設を設置しながらテクノロジーをアップデートさせ，陸，海，空のユニットを生産して，領域を広げて敵とリアルタイムに戦っていく戦略シミュレーションだ。2016年にリリースされた「8-Bit Armies」の続編という位置付けになっており，リアルさの追求とは異なるボクセルベースのキュートなグラフィックスで，バトルを楽しめる趣向になっている。


　前作同様に，このジャンルにありがちな複雑さよりも，簡略化されたゲームプレイがもたらす戦略性の楽しさにフォーカスしている。戦闘に生き残ることで成長していくレベルシステムや，本作のために作り直されたAIを搭載する。新たに海戦も可能になったほか，ゲームマップも前作よりも4倍もの広さになっているという。また，工場や防御施設に加えて，「スーパーストラクチャー」と呼ばれる巨大施設も建設できるようだ。


　開発元のPetroglyph Gamesといえば，「Command & Conquer」シリーズを生み出したWestwood Studiosをバックボーンにするメーカーだ。これまでも「スター・ウォーズ エンパイア・アット・ウォー」や「Command & Conquer Remastered Collection」といったRTS作品を手がけている。今後はβテストを通してゲームバランスの調整を行いながら，MODのサポートや前作でおなじみの宇宙外来軍団との戦いを描く「センチネル・キャンペーン」などを追加していく予定とのことだ。


　本作は現時点で日本語対応はしていないものの，気になる人はチェックしておくといいだろう。
